2023-24 Zone 10 / State Triples

The Zone 10 Triples Championships was hosted by Greenlees Park and Denistone Sports Club, from Saturday, 26th August and Finals on Saturday, 2nd September at Greenlees Park.

Open Triples

Wenty had 6 teams enter with the teams of Alex Tonkin, Emmet McCleod, Nick Redcliffe and David Hearns, Shane Clarke, Cam Curtis bowing out in the semi-finals to teams from Club Merrylands.

Senior Triples

There were 3 teams from Wenty in the Senior Triples, with Kevin Fitzpatrick, Jeff Gallagher, Dale Maitland and Mohan Lal, Dallas Palm, John ‘Emu’ Stephenson progressing to the final, where Dale’s team closed out the match 22 to 19 to become the 2023-24 Zone 10 State Senior Triples Champions.

Dale, Kevin and Jeff will compete in the NSW State Finals in Dubbo, 18th-20th March 2024

Reserve Triples

Ryker Jenkins-Ruhe, Andrew McPherson, Danny Ruhe won their first round match. A big thanks to Ryker for stepping up after a withdrawal. This is Ryker’s first Zone competition and he played his best in both games.

The Finals are Saturday, 28th and Sunday, 29th October at Toongabbie Sports Club.

Finals series – Saturday, 28th

With the initial rounds completed, we have four players in the round of 16 in the Opens, (Nathan Townsend, Franklin Fong, Matty Swan and Brendan Conway), and Glenn Calnan in the Reserves. Unfortunately, all our entrants in the Seniors were defeated before the finals.

On Saturday, 28th, Nathan Townsend, Franklin Fong and Matthew Swan bowed out in the Open Singles round of 16, whilst Brendon Conway won his match to proceed to the Quarter-Finals against Jack McShane (MER), where Jack had the answers to take the match.

Glenn Calnan was defeated in a close match by Scott White (Toon) in the Reserve Singles Quarter Final.

With Glen and Brendon losing their matches, Wenty is unrepresented in any of the Singles finals this year.

Zone 10 Pairs Championships commence Saturday, 16th September and are hosted by Club Merrylands with support from Dundas Sports and Denistone Sports Club, with finals on Saturday, 23rd September.

Unfortunately, this year, all Wenty entries were eliminated prior to the semi-finals.


2023-24 Zone 10 / State Fours

Games played 11th/12th November and finals on 18th November.

2 teams progress to the quarter finals on Sunday, 12th – Emmett McCleod and Shane Clarke.

Emmett was defeated by Shawn Thompson (Merrylands) 21 to 13, whilst Shane (26) defeated Michael Ingersoll (Dundas) (11) and will face Tony Woods (Merrylands) in the Semi-Final on Saturday, 18th.

Mark, Alex, Cam and Shane defeated Sam Rich, Sam Dukes, Tom Rich and Tony Woods (Merrylands) in the semi-final and were then defeated by Heath Lewis, Michael Clarke, Jack McShane and Shawn Thompson in the final. Congratulations to Shane and team for great result.

Senior Fours

  • Peter Bird, Trevor Imer, Jeff Gallagher, Dale Maitland 

Kev, Mick, John and Peter progressed to the Semi-Finals on Saturday, 18th, (they had to unfortunately defeat two other Wenty Leagues sides along the way) where they face Shaun Addy, Peter Taylor, Greg Laws and Jacob Melham from Carlo Bowls.

Kev, Mick, John and Peter were very close in their semi-final match against Shaun Addy, Peter Taylor, Greg Laws and Jacob Melham (Carlo Bowls) losing 17 to 19.

Open Reserve Fours

  • Michael Brown, Sam Ebejer, Warwick Weekley, John Champion

In a close fought match, Champo’s team was defeated 14 to 15 by Guiseppe Roncone, Brian Flynn, Robert Ohmsen and Brian Sherlock of Merrylands.
